No need to despair, with the help of a false tail you can easily transform that final impression.
With the start of the showing season underway, it’s time to assess the turnout of your horse or pony and consider where any improvements can be made.
Something that can be overlooked and which makes a big difference is the quality of the tail.
Damaged, thin or rubbed tails can transform immaculate turnout into a show ring nightmare but by using a false tail you can easily increase the volume or disguise a thin tail to gain the overall look you are aiming for.
Firstly, false tails give the illusion of a fuller and longer natural tail. This can greatly enhance the overall look and presence of the horse in the show ring, catching the judges’ attention and leaving a lasting impression.
Moreover, false tails can help protect a horse’s natural tail from damage. Show horses often undergo extensive grooming and styling, which can lead to breakage and thinning of the tail. By attaching a false tail, the natural tail is shielded from the wear and tear, allowing it to grow and remain healthy.
False tails from Crusader Equestrian are made from natural hair with a fabric loop at the top making them easy to secure in place.
Wash the same as you would your horses tail. Can be blown dry to fluff it up.
How to fit a false tail:
Step 1: Start at the base of the dock, take some hair approx ½ cm thickness, split this into 3 strands from which you can form a plait.
Step 2: Begin to plait a 3 strand plait just as you would to plait your horse’s mane. Make 3 or 4 crossovers before you are ready to put the false tail in.
Step 3: After 3 or 4 crossovers, take one of the strands of the plait and thread it through the loop at the top of the false tail. Continue to plait for approx 2 inches once you have threaded the one strand through the loop.
Step 4: Once you have plaited down 2 inches, put in a rubber band to secure and / or sew the base of the plait. Some people also prefer to put in a couple of stitches around the loop within the plait.
Step 5: Shake your horse’s tail – the false tail will merge inside the existing tail.
Our tails are legal in most registered horse shows including AQHA, APHA,PTHA, NSBA, PHBA, and any association that allows hair to hair tail extensions.
