False tail to suit Western Shows 100 cms in length
With the start of the showing season underway, it’s time to assess the turnout of your horse or pony and consider where any improvements can be made.
Something that can be overlooked and which makes a big difference is the quality of the tail.
Damaged, thin or rubbed tails can transform immaculate turnout into a show ring nightmare but by using a false tail you can easily increase the volume or disguise a thin tail to gain the overall look you are aiming for.
False tails are a practical solution for achieving that flawless look. They provide an instant boost to the horse’s beauty and serve as a valuable tool for maintaining a healthy and impressive tail. Show horses work hard to look their best, and false tails play an essential role in achieving that level of perfection.
Another advantage of false tails is their versatility. These extensions can be easily customized to match the color and texture of a horse’s natural tail, creating a seamless and polished appearance. Attention to detail is crucial in the show ring, and a well-matched false tail can significantly elevate the horse’s overall presentation.
But it’s not just about aesthetics. False tails also provide protection for a horse’s natural tail. Show horses undergo extensive grooming and styling, which can lead to breakage and thinning of the tail. By attaching a false tail, the natural tail is shielded from wear and tear, allowing it to grow and remain healthy. This ensures that the horse maintains a beautiful tail even after rigorous grooming routines.
One of the primary advantages of using a false tail is the illusion it creates. False tails give the impression of a fuller and longer natural tail, instantly enhancing the overall look and presence of the horse in the show ring. This can catch the judges’ attention and leave a lasting impression, potentially increasing the horse’s chances of success.
False tails from Crusader Equestrian are made from natural hair with a fabric loop at the top making them easy to secure in place.
Wash the same as you would your horses tail. Can be blown dry to fluff it up.
Here is a simple way to attach your tail, or you can braid it in.
How to fit a false tail:
Step 1: Start at the base of the dock, take some hair approx ½ cm thickness, split this into 3 strands from which you can form a plait.
Step 2: Begin to plait a 3 strand plait just as you would to plait your horse’s mane. Make 3 or 4 crossovers before you are ready to put the false tail in.
Step 3: After 3 or 4 crossovers, take one of the strands of the plait and thread it through the loop at the top of the false tail. Continue to plait for approx 2 inches once you have threaded the one strand through the loop.
Step 4: Once you have plaited down 2 inches, put in a rubber band to secure and / or sew the base of the plait. Some people also prefer to put in a couple of stitches around the loop within the plait.
Step 5: Shake your horse’s tail – the false tail will merge inside the existing tail.
